Are Mormons Christian?

The RNC gets local religious leaders to pray each day at the conference. One of the guys was Mormon and "prayed for the enemies". Many people are saying he is more Christian than actual Christians. Do you consider Mormons to be Christian? Why or why not?

Yes. They have a fundamental belief in Jesus Christ. That makes them Christians.

I think people assume we Mormons don't believe in Christ for a few reasons:

1. We don't believe in "The Trinity" like othe Christian Faith's do. Many believe The Father, The Son, and The Spirit are the same person. We believe that they are 3 separate beings but are united and one IN PURPOSE.

2. We don't have crossed on our church buildings. While we do believe that Christ hung on the cross and physically died for us, we do not use the cross as a symbol of worship, rather we focus on the Living Christ, as he was after the resurrection.

3. They believe we worship Joseph Smith who we believe translated the Book of Mormon. We do not worship him at all but do believe that he was a prophet just like Noah or Moses, and that God used him to direct His (God's) work on this earth. We believe we still have a prophet, Thomas S Monson, but we do not worship him. We worship God, our eternal Father.

In no way discrediting Mormons, but I don't think they're Christian. As a Christian, I have found the book of Mormon deeply contradicting to the Holy Bible. Too many to list, and to Christians they seem glaringly obvious but to Mormons they somehow make sense. I do recognize they draw on Christianity for sure, and I respect they consider themselves Christians. This was an opinion poll and well that's the opinion my research has lead me to (and I have done a lot,  I find Mormonism strangely fascinating).

Christianity is a big umbrella. There are many sects under this umbrella, including Mormon, Baptist, Catholic etc.

Yes, Mormons are Christian. They belive in God and they believe that Jesus is the son of God. They read the King James Bible and adhere to biblical teachings.

So are Mennonites and Amish Christians?

Yes. They believe in Jesus and that you can be saved through him because he died for our sins.

Therefore they are Christian.

Sure! Just like Cathlics, Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, ect. We believe in God and Jesus Christ, yes, we may praise and worship differently but we're all still Christians.

Hit the wrong button but yes. Anyone who believes that Jesus Is our savior is a Christian. While the Jewish faith recognizes Jesus as a person and a prophet they don't recognize him as the savior. Christianity is huge and has many denominations.

Yeah. I was born and raised LDS (though no longer a member) and they are definitely Christians. 100%.
