IVF or ICSI?

Question

We have no know morphology/motility issues and I have been pregnant before (m/c) so know that at least one of my eggs was fertilisable but would you choose conventional IVF or ICSI? I understand that ICSI rules out natural selection potentially producing average embryos, but am absolutely terrified of none of my eggs fertilising. I recently had a friend get 22 eggs at egg collection and not one single egg fertilised 😩

Just to give you some hope. I am 26 and my husband is 24. We have unexplained fertility and his sperm is all normal. I only had three eggs retrieved and I was DEVASTATED. That being said I immediately asked the embryologist if we should do ICSI since I only had three and didn't want to lose anymore. He said "if you were my daughter and your husbands sperm today looks good I would let them do what they're going to do naturally". So very very reluctantly I trusted him and went home crying and thinking why oh why didn't we do it for peice of mine. They called the next day and all three fertilized. Have faith, those doctors knows what're they're talking about. I am now 4weeks6days pregnant with possible twins as we had two make it to day 5. Hope this gives you some hope and piece of mind :)

I had one lonely, but mature, egg retrieved on harvesting day for my first (and only) IVF cycle.  Needless to say, I was devastated and expecting failure, already projecting into the future how we'd have to do more costly rounds of IVF with even more expensive drugs as I was clearly a poor responder to the hormones.  My husband's sperm weren't looking great.  Clinic did ICSI to improve our chances.  Egg fertilized and made it to day-3 transfer and I have no idea if it actually was a "grade-A embryo" but that's what they told me it looked like, so I held onto a shred of hope.  Long story short, that little bean took and I now have a happy and healthy almost 3 year old, and believe it or not, an almost 18-month old conceived naturally somehow.
So keep holding on to hope, trust your docs, they've seen it all!  Miracles can happen!

My husband has good sperm numbers. The issue was ovulation for us since I have PCOS. We used traditional fertilization and it turned out fine. I was panicking thinking what if none fertilize and we should have done icsi, but it worked out. Good luck to you!

I've heard of people doing half and half, depending on the # of eggs retrieved. Might be worth asking your doctor.

We did ICSI because dh numbers were low during collection on er. With the numbers he had I didn't think twice in doing ICSI and I'm glad I did because 5 eggs fertilized and 2 made it to day 5 to be frozen for FET. Best of luck to you.

My dr recommended icsi if the first cycle didn't work.  If you gave good egg/sperm quality I would try without.

I just went through ICSI. I had to do 3 extra days of hormones because my follicles were growning slow. I had 9, 5 with eggs, 4 were mature, but only 3 fertilized. Out of those 3 only 2 were good enough for a day 3 transfer. Its stress full.
