What is this glucose test?

Every time I see a post about this the person seems miserable. So... what exactly is it? I'm pretty sure it is pregnancy related. But what exactly happens and why do people seem like they are just dreading it? :/

It's not that bad as people make it seem. It's like drinking non-carbonated soda. I had the fruit punch flavor, and it tasted like fruit punch fuze.

I have to do it at next appt it is just a really sugary drink u have to drink within 5 min and keep it down for a hour then they test ur blood for diabetes. It tastes like flat orange soda to me.

Its a test for gestational diabetes. You have bloods taken then drink 2 what i can only describes a  very sweet warm syrup like cola drink kinda things that taste vile. You wait 2 hours then have bloods re done. This will tell them if you have gestational diabetes or not x

I have mine today! My best advice is to refrigerate the drink first. You chug it and exactly an hour later they draw your blood. The test is to see how your body processes your sugar, and if you have an over-abundance of insulin (diabetes), which is often co-morbid with preeclampsia. It's really not that horrible.

Mine was just another day at the doctors office. I had the orange drink but it was super cold - think that helps. Then I waited about 20 minutes, saw my doc, saw my baby and by the time that was done it was time to draw my blood. Easy peasy for me but I know unfortunately it does make other mamas sick. I made sure I ate 2.5 hours before I went - had scrambled eggs and avocado. I skipped sugar and carbs the night before and passed with a 101.

It's not horrible. My doctor gave my 5 minutes to drink my glucose drink (fruit punch, it wasn't great, but it wasn't awful. Tasted like an old fruit punch with an alkaseltzer in it) then drew my blood. I did throw up almost as soon as I left the doctors office, but I had my appointment early so I didn't eat anything, and drank a bunch of water before leaving (probably too fast, I forgot to not pee that morning, so I chugged water so I could provide urine sample) and that's probably what made me sick. I'd say just eat a bland breakfast/lunch before your appointment and bring a book or have your phone charged, because the hour wait sucks lol 
All in all, not that bad.

It is NOT that bad. I promise. It's the gestational diabetes test. You drink a small bottle of what tastes like flat soda (usually orange flavor. Some people get fruit punch). Then an hour later, they take some blood. Just chug it.
