I'm heartbroken and can't understand how this happened

Just got the news that my baby no longer has a heartbeat. I can't understand how that's possible when just one week ago we saw the heartbeat at 99 at 6weeks. Now my uterus is a ticking time bomb and I need to make a difficult decision to painfully pass naturally or have D&C procedure, any advice out there?
