Multicultural families, how do you respond to ignorance/hatred?

My family has been called many horrible thing's can anyone else relate

Unfortunately it's every where...I live in Texas. My hubby is Swedish y I'm black/Mexican; we've dealt with alot. We built a home in a rural area y had to sell it due to harassment. We've learned to stay within diverse areas, check the us data site for area percentages, I started my own meetup group for multicultural/biracial/interracial families :)) Ocassional we get the is this together speech in restaurants or stores even though we are holding hands y we immediately speak with a manager. We have to be strong for our children. Look up the 1st interracial couple, The Lovings, their story is of love y courage :)

Our family ignores it. We're a Black/Mexican/ lesbian family. Living in CA prob helps a lot but everyone has an opinion...they're like belly buttons.

My family is weird. We live in Louisiana, and we deal with racism a lot. My husbands family is Cuban, our brother and his friends are gay or transgender, and I'm white. I've been told the way I walk is how a "privilege" woman walks. I have to have foodstamps just to feed my kid.

​I've given up about being trashed on. I don't have time to deal with that kind if behavior.

​I come from a town of mostly black  and white 40/40 . The other percentages are Asian , middle eastern etc ..

​We all mix and people would never call my friends or children that !!

​We did a lot of history in school about the Underground railway, black history month and how we helped bring the former slaves here to canada  ... 
​Maybe if these people were taught a lesson.

I'm from NY too & dealt with this all the time. I usually give a sarcastic response. I often say things to educate them & make sure they know they are being close minded & ignorant. Many learn to not say anything so ignorant again. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I definitely know you're pain. Just remind yourself that your family is beautiful & they will be the future that will help to erase the ignorance.

​What I do notice though is more talk from people my own race. That's the most frustrating thing for me.

I am oblivious to it, honestly. My DH says he sees things and gives people the benefit of the doubt. We live in NJ, USA in a very diverse area so it may not affect us as much. Plus both of our families have some interracial relationships. We know we are more fortunate than others in this regard. When I hear stories like yours I always thank God for you - you are pioneers for multicultural families to not have to deal with what you're going through in the future. I'm so sorry people are so backwards in their thinking... Stay strong!!! ❤️

I would honestly just ignore it and be the bigger person.  It's sad that people treat y'all that way, I'm sorry!
