Be engaged and living in a state you hardly no anyone in with his parents+family (you don't get along with them) and moving into your own place seems bit far off

Be with you're ex at your home town in you're own apartment

I probably wouldn't be with that person. For one family means a lot to me. If I can't get along with his family that's a no go. & two any man in there right mind wouldn't let a girlfriend live together with her ex. Just wrong in my eyes.
