When someone asks to use They/ Them pronouns?

I am sorry for the silly question. When someone asks you to use They/Them pronouns, how would you go on with the situation? My friend (Whom is a female) told me she wants everyone to start using They/Them pronouns. I would ask right now but she's going out of town. How would you use those pronouns? I know I used female pronouns but I'm trying to learn the correct way. I only know how to use thosepronouns when I'm mentioning more than one person. I don't quite know how to use the pronouns for singular usage. Thank you.

The same way you do for plural they/them. They/them isn't necessarily plural just like you/your isn't necessarily singular.
For example, "they went shopping today." Could either mean "Person A went shopping today" or "Persons A, B, ... went shopping today."
There isn't much difference to how you reference them other than the pronouns you're using for them. (< Another example of using they/them).

ThI same way you talk about an in urn baby that you don't know the sex of.. or talking about someone you don't know the gender of (someone in a car in front of you etc)
It's really not that difficult, just takes practise. I'm sure it makes them very uncomfortable to hear the incorrect pronouns so props to you for making an effort.

You probably already use they/them pronouns all the time for singular people without even using them. For example, "if someone works as a busdriver, they better like people", or "when you get to the store, can you ask them where the milk is?". "They" is already widely used in english to refer to an abstact person of indeterminate gender. Just dont get into your head about it and try your best :)

Just substitute your female pronouns with they/ them pronouns like you would use when talking about a group of people. I do this when I dont want someone knowing if I am talking about a guy or girl. It takes some getting used to and sounds weird at first.

Also, you can practice using "they" and "them" in your head when thinking about your friend. I use this all the time when friends change pronouns. On my way to seeing them, I just practice it in my head. "I'm really looking forward to seeing them tonight." "I wonder if they're still dating that idiot I can't stand." "Those bow ties they wear are awesome. I have to remember to ask them where they go shopping." You just need to rewire your brain a little, which is totally possible and you can totally do. Keep asking others for support, so your friend doesn't have to be the one teaching you. :)

Just use the "plural" form (they are). It takes a little adjusting to, but just calmly correct yourself and move on when you mess up.

As for the grammar, singular "they" with plural verbs dates back a few hundred years, so I'm pretty sure you're fine, haha.

one of the simplest ways to learn is literally too think, "if i am not speaking directly to them, using pronouns such as 'you,' then i will use a pronoun that does not include gender" lets use myself as an example, assuming my preferred pronouns are they/them, therefore we avoid misgendering anyone. so next time you are telling someone about how funny i am instead of saying "you will never believe what she said" you will say "you will never believe what they said" or if i forgot to do something you told me to do and you were getting scolded, instead of saying "i told her" you would say "i told them" and hope to not get your head chewed off. i hope to have cleared things up a bit. if not, feel free to message me if you need. just remember to always be mindful of everyone's pronouns. whenever i meet someone new, i make sure to refer to them w gender neutral pronouns so that i don't misgender, rather just leaving them ungendered so that they can tell me if they are comfortable. 🌹🌹🌹
